Ghosts of Thurmere Hall (The) by Stephen Greenwood

This haunting story was only available on Ephemeral and AO3, but since it was uploaded 15 years ago it's probably not getting a lot of hits these days.

Although there is no similarity whatsoever, this story brought back the feeling of the Famous Five books I read as a child with its secret tunnels. I always loved the idea of secret tunnels under wind-swept moors near the sea. Sadly, the closest I've ever gotten to these is discovering wombat warrens at Wilson's Prom. 😀
