Dark Water by Suzanne Schramm

17,000 Words

Dark Water cover

Prehistoric insects. Mothmen. Now it’s a publicity-shy tribe of murderers. Just another nice trip to the forest with Mulder.

Another nice trip to the forest on a questionable quest leads our agents into danger. Although there's no smut in this one, there's a lot of other action, and a little insane jealousy on Mulder's part that distracts him, leaving them more vulnerable.

No Title by The Alexandria Trio

No Title Cover

Love knows no national boundaries or gender differentiation: Everyone loves Scully.

The Alexandria Trio are Lucy Marchmont, kmom, & bcfan

Some absolute silliness for the end of the July Frenzy of Fanfic. If nothing else it should make you smile.

As I only had a tiny version of the cover for this one, I've taken the liberty of playing with it a little in versions where it's going to be blown up bigger. 🙂

Colors by Amperage, Livengoo, Monkeyboy & Rodent

27,000 Words

Colors cover

Scully has an itch to scratch, but has trouble getting the right spot.

AUTHORS’ NOTE: Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away … Oh, wait a minute, that’s a different story … Ah yes, how to explain Colors … Let’s just say that we decided if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, but let’s do it tongue firmly in cheek. Yes, there’s lots of firm things in this, and soft luscious goodies, and all the deep cerulean pools one could ever hope to gaze into. That’s right, we wrote a romance … well, as close to a romance as you’ll probably ever get out of this bunch of non-romantics.

Actually, it’s more about sex and comedy than romance, but we honestly are trying to get Mulder and Scully together. They’re just … just … guess you’ll just have to read to find out.

There's no other story quite like this round robin written in 1995. I'm still laughing from just attempting to come up with a summary. There's not much more I can say that the authors haven't said above. If you like some fun, burlesque smut, read it NOW. Even if you've already read it.

Bigfoot by PC Rasmussen

27,500 Words

BIgfoot cover

Mulder goes hunting after fairytales again and Scully tags along. Things don't turn out the way Mulder hoped they would and things go wrong... Wanna know more? Read the story. :o)

A lesser known story by PC Rasmussen, this one's possibly heavier on the Scully!Torture than the Mulder!Torture for a change. 🙂 Although it's rated R by the author, I'd put it closer to a PG-13.

Bates Witch (The) by Xenith

16,000 Words

Bates Witch cover

Mulder falls afoul of a witch's curse while investigating the mysterious death of a scuba diver in swim fins and tank, found unscorched in the middle of a burned out meadow, miles from water.

Another PG fic to help balance things out a little 😉  This one's still full of MSR/UST when Mulder isn't being an ass. And it's always fun to torture Mulder in every way possible.

Gatsby Trilogy by Nicole Perry

16,000 Words

Gatsby cover

Nicole pays homage to F Scott Fitzgerald in this AU third party observation of our beloved characters.

Thank you to Nina (xphilernj) for suggesting this one and for providing Gatsby III, which had long ago fallen off the internet.

This isn't the sort of thing I normally read, but I really enjoyed it. Nicole's writing is on point and puts you right in there amongst all the action. I had to pause after reading it to absorb it all.  Kudos to Nicole..

Cruise by M Partous

37,000 Words

Cruise cover

A series of mysterious deaths aboard its ships leads a cruise line to contact the FBI as rumours of a vengeful ghost begin to fly. Is the killer striking from beyond the grave?

I do like the idea of Mulder & Scully stuck together on a cruise ship, so there may be a few more cruise ship investigations that I'll post.  For scientific comparison, of course 😉

This one's set in Season 4, not long after TFWID, and poor Scully's obsessing a little too much about not being a certain person's soul mate.

Way I Saw It (The) by JaimeLyn

65,000 Words

Way I Saw It cover

The Way I Saw It: Scully has had an awful day, Mulder is drunk, and Diana Fowley thinks its all Scully's fault. Who is right? Who is wrong? And what the heck happened?

The Dish and the Spoon: Rain, wind, Mulder, Scully, Diana and... a meteor shower? What the heck is going on? Who will emerge victorious in a game of love and war? It all happened just the way they saw it.

JaimeLyn tells this story from Diana, Scully & Mulder's points of view alternatively, and it's a thing of beauty, particularly the Fowley-Scully hate.

Changing Tides by QofMush

25,000 Words

Changing Tides cover

Who says change is all bad?

Strange that although it had been Scully who’d done all the fighting to get the X-Files reopened, it was Mulder who received the late message on his machine.... xfiles to reopen with Mulder, Scully, Fowley & Spender.

While Scully's jealousy is getting the better of her, Mulder's a bit of an asshole, siding with the Fowl One in this, so Scully has to ditch him in order to save Gibson. I would have liked worse things to have happened to Fowley, but QofMush isn't as cruel as me, obviously

Failsafe by Caroline

26,000 Words

Failsafe cover

Mulder and Scully are kidnapped and tortured after being sent on case that Skinner hadn't assigned them, leading to a race to locate them before it's too late...

Damn Desk by SamIAm

4,300 Words

Damn Desk cover

I: Maggie needs some help moving a few things. Discoveries ensue.

II: Mulder annoys scully and she gets revenge

III: Scully raises the revenge stakes. Some naked antics ensue.

Whilst this may not be a literary classic, I remember having to chase down parts of this fic so I'm posting it here in its entirety for the hump day PWP. Unfortunately it seems that Sam's muse was feeling rather contrary when she wrote this, and it turned out to be PWPWP.

Anyway, if you're after some OOC mindlessness involving some friendly competition between our agents, this should be about 15 minutes worth.

Invisible Games by 19

26,000 Words

Book Cover: Invisible Games by 19

Another not-so-nice trip to the woods.

Teamed up with an alphabet of other agencies, Mulder and Scully once again prove their strength in the face of both a challenge and hostility from other participants.

I love a third-party POV, and this one looks at Mulder & Scully through the eyes of the project overseer, an experienced General.  This is a non-stop drama-filled action story from 19. Although it's officially rated R, I think it's more the PG-13 end of the scale.

April Fool’s Day Series by GirlGone

12,000 Words

April Fools Day Series cover
  • April Fool's Day 1 - 101 Uses For Jumper Cables: Scully plays a practical joke on Mulder that leaves him speechless.
  • April Fool's Day 2 - Please Leave a Message : Mulder feels compelled to retaliate, pulling out all the stops for this practical joke.
  • April Fool's Day 3 - Sex, Lies and Microcassette Tapes: Geez, will Scully give up? Think not. She's got another trick up her sleeve for Mulder in the practical joke war.
  • April Fool's Day 4 - Move and Counter Move : Mulder thinks he's got Scully now. But does he?

Scully and Mulder play a few April Fool's Day pranks on each other. GirlGone is known for her humour. This is just a little silliness, set in early seasons. No MSR sorry, just some friendly fun with a garnish of jealousy.

Strange occurrences cause Mulder to use past X-Files to solve a new one, which sends he and Scully spiralling toward a truth they were *meant* to discover.

Another forest; another cryptid; another moment of life-changing clarity in which Mulder and Scully embark on a journey of the heart, and other improbable things.

This is definitely a better trip to the forest than they had in Detour. 🙂

Monika's packed this full of the all-important smut, whilst maintaining the UST for as long as possible with this original tale.

Flea Market Economy by Punk Maneuverability

11,000 Words

Flea Market Economy cover

She gets the feeling this is Mulder's fault, because these things usually are.

!There's a dubcon warning on this one despite their relationship not being consummated.  It's labelled as "comedic genderswap", if that helps.

This is stuck!fic of a totally different kind, but Punk Maneuverability's specialty is writing fics that are difficult to categorise. This is an awkward but fun Mulder/Scully bodyswap trope story.

Arcadiafics: Dividends, Seven Year Itch & CC&Rs by Suzanne Schramm

19,000 Words

Arcadia Fics cover

Dividends: A late night conversation as Scully takes stock on the last six years.

Seven Year Itch: Sequel to "Dividends." Another late night conversation as Mulder and Scully sort through their feelings.

Covenants, Contracts & Restrictions: Missing scene from Arcadia. Night 1: they spoon like baby kittens (shyeah!). Night 2: Scully tosses Mulder out of the bedroom. Night 3: Anyone’s guess. All I know is Mulder was looking pretty chipper the next morning. And Scully was acting downright wifely when she asked him to give up playing in the mud on Night 4.

How's this for a special edition? Double the Arcadia smut!!!

I was making a cover for the Dividends universe when I remembered I had to make another for CC&Rs and didn't know how far my creativity would extend... this is the result.

Dividends is set earlier in Season 6, but its follow-up, Seven Year Itch is set during Arcadia.

Covenants, Contracts & Restrictions is a completely separate story, giving you double the happy ending. 🙂

Overnight Sensation by Syntax6

88,000 Words

Overnight Sensation cover

Set post Two Fathers/One Son, Mulder and Scully struggle to get back on the same page as a serial killer stalks couples in the Boston area.

It was fortuitous that permission to share some of Syntax6's stories came just in time to share this Valentine's Day fic.  Don't expect any sappy romance though, it's set immediately after One Son before Mulder and Scully start back on the X-Files.  Scully needs some alone time before the X-Files reopen and accepts a case in Boston. Naturally her alone time doesn't last long.

There aren't a lot of hearts and flowers in this one.  Pissy Scully is on point with her snarky thoughts about Mulder and Fowley. Mulder is on his toes, and Fowley is peak Fowley.  Of course, Mulder ends up on Scully and vice versa by the end.

I'll take this opportunity to surreptitiously plug Syn's original novels again.  Find out more at her web site.

Lesser Evils by Hannah Mason

Part of the Evils Universe series:

Mulder thought that no one could ever want Scully as much as he did. He was dead wrong.

The two stories in this universe were written by Syntax6 under her earlier alias.  As excited as I am to post these fics, it doesn't come close to the excitement I'm feeling at being given permission to post a number of Syntax6's stories.  Stay tuned.

If, like me, you can't get enough of Syntax6's writing, she's just released her 4th novel.  I don't want to give details here, where her "legit" writing can be associated with her fanfic, but if you love the way she manages to pull twists out of nowhere, you'll want to follow this link to her webpage for more information.

A string of suicides leads Mulder and Scully to a sleepy, coastal town in Oregon for the second time—on their return to The X File—as tensions run high and nothing is as it seems.

As evidence that 2020 wasn't all bad, I present this contemporary classic casefic written by FragileVixen for the recent case file fic exchange.  A bonus fic (link only) to help get you through the weekend.

FragileVixen has also started making collages to post with some of her stories on AO3. This is the image she put together for this one:

Lost Series, The by Wintersong

204,000 Words

Lost series cover

The Lost: Mulder and Scully are trapped in the remote wilderness and the art of surviving was not what they expected.

The Found: In the midst of an explosively escalating serial arson case, Mulder and Scully must come to terms with the changes that six months in the wilderness have wrought in themselves and those around them.

Alphas: Mulder, Scully and the rest of the X-Files Division struggle with new realities and the changing of old relationships when the reopening of a closed murder investigation draws them into a shadowy culture thousands of years old.

This starts with an unforgettable story of Scully and Mulder's survival in the woods having been taken there by a perp.  Scully's strength and ingenuity keeps them alive before they're ultimately reunited with civilisation.  Once they return they're forced to San Diego to help with a case involving Scully's brother.   Then finally they have to face themselves and each other.

Trigger Stories by PhileyX

40,000 Words

Trigger stories cover

Fox: Ever wonder why Mulder finally kissed Scully on New Year’s Eve? Here’s my theory…….

Mulder: So Mulder managed to resist Scully. Will she be able to resist him?

Toady: Agent Archie Travis goes on the mission to find out what Agent Scully left behind in Agent Mulder’s apartment. This story was initially set after "Fox" but written after "Mulder" so it includes details revealed in "Mulder". It's been shifted accordingly.

Even: Whoops, just a slip of the tongue...

Kiss: How far would Mulder go to know what happened? Mulder is desperate to know about what happened when he was in the mercy of his partner. How far would he go to find out? Meanwhile, Scully plays a mean joke on him and Archie finds the woman of his dreams

Mulder and Scully are faced with the extremely tough challenge of resisting each other's advances.  It's another one that's only PG (I don't know what's wrong with me), but there's plenty of fighting of urges.  It gets a little silly at times, but it's all in fun.

Iniquity by Vickie Moseley

Book Cover: Iniquity by Vickie Moseley

While still working on Domestic Terrorism, Scully takes a vacation and Mulder finds himself doing a profile.

! Content Warning: some graphic imagery, not for tender readers.

Scully's in San Diego for Thanksgiving when Mulder's sent there to profile a baby killer.  Once again, Scully doesn't get a vacation and ends up babysitting Mulder.  Vickie has Mulder in full-on psycho profiling mode in this one, with an added degree of physical difficulty, all while staying at Bill Jr's house.

You may have noticed that I haven't been uploading regularly since returning from my time away with the bats. I'm behind in everything at home and struggling to get back into routine. I'll get back on top of it all once I stop beating myself up over it. 🙂

March by Blue Samutra

50,000 words

Book Cover: March by Blue Samutra

Six Hours in New York is included as a prologue.

Set post-Tithonus, before Two Fathers. A routine murder investigation in Chicago where not everything is as it seems.

Blue Samutra is a fabulous author who also made great dustjackets, so she's a particular favourite of mine. 😉

This is a compelling story with a slightly fragile Scully and protective Mulder sent to Chicago after a rather grisly murder by AD Cassidy, much to AD Kersh's disdain, to lure out a serial killer.

While they're not exactly working undercover, they do have to stake out a nightclub and dress the part, so I've added the undercover tag for the little dress-up scenario which has Mulder quite enraptured. 🙂

Six Hours in New York is an achingly beautiful Maggie Scully perspective of Mulder's arrival at the hospital in NY that really sets the scene of where our agents are at in their personal relationship (0bviously One Son hasn't happened yet though).

Unscrupulous by Narida Law

2,500 Words

Unscrupulous cover

Mulder’s haircut is, quite simply, the result of one woman’s possessive nature. A lot of people have speculated on Mulder’s “for the love of God, WHY?” haircut. Here’s my excuse.

This one's just a cute little piece because I'm away at the moment and haven't had much of a chance to read.  Another PG rated fic as evidence that I read the occasional non-angsty-smut. 😉

Normal Halloween & Winter by Branwell

45,000 Words

Normal Halloween cover

A Normal Halloween: This is a stand-alone story of Mulder's and Scully's
'normal' 1999 Halloween. Set after "The Sixth Extinction" but is a prequel for "Winter I: The Riddle"

Winter I: The Riddle:  Mulder finds an X-file to distract him from the pain of Thanksgiving memories and Scully unexpectedly agrees to join him in investigating it. The experience turns into more than the simple diversion they planned. A darker mystery presents itself and threatens to expose more of their own emotions than they want to reveal.

Winter II: More than Glass:  Mulder and Scully find themselves dealing with the issue they have successfully avoided for seven years -- their exclusive attachment to each other and their mutual physical attraction.

With this Halloween fic you get an extra Thanksgiving story, so keep that in mind when I forget to do one for Thanksgiving. 🙂

Branwell gives us a Mulder and Scully who have been worn down both from years of fighting malevolent forces and being unable to share the repeated trauma with anyone else without ridicule and disbelief.  They're reluctant to trust anyone, including each other for fear of inflicting more pain.  They're ruled by their own insecurity and question whether they can even trust themselves.

I don't mean to put you off at all; it's actually a very real Mulder and Scully considering what they've been through, and there is such beauty in their tragedy.  Branwell doesn't put them through too much torture in these stories, but their actions and reactions are those of tortured souls.  There is real feeling in the way they treat each other, and underneath it all there's their deep abiding love. Eventually they find what they need in each other.

Mulder and Scully have to catch a bad guy at the Highland Games. Scully convinces him that he has to wear a kilt to blend in. Discomfort and comfort ensue.

Sometimes I can't help myself and include some naughtiness on my covers, with an attempt to make it tasteful.  Apologies to PDF readers, I can't make the cover not stretch over the whole page and therefore there may be a lot of butt in your face when you open the file.

Let me just add that there aren't enough fics with Mulder wearing a kilt. I expect you all to write me some more, OK?   If enough people write some kilt smut stories I may need to do a Shipper's digest for them...  😀

Undercover by Splodge04

37,000 Words

Undercover cover

Mulder and Scully go undercover to try and gain evidence against a suspect. However, things don't go to plan and something happens to Scully. Both of their lives become endangered. Will things turn out for the best?

The M rating is for drug use and violence. Unfortunately.

There's a lull in cases so Scully volunteers herself to go undercover to catch a drug dealer/murderer, and of course Mulder has to go too.  They have to push themselves to stay in character and it takes a toll, with ever-increasing angst as they put themselves in more danger.

I suggest ficsave.xyz if you'd like to download from fanfiction.net.

University by JessM Cover

Mulder and Scully go undercover at a University and come in contact with a whole lot of subliminal messages

Jess has rated this PG-13, but I'd probably rate it a little higher due to Mulder's dirty mind.

Jess turns the Mulder!Innuendo up to 11 in this fic. They're a Mulder and Scully who are very comfortable with each other, but the UST is off the charts, particularly with Mulder. I love Jess's writing, but she's a big tease in this one!

Parabiosis by Penumbra

Book Cover: Parabiosis by Penumbra

Science and Mysticism conjoin. A detailed look at season 7. (Rated R)

This story is supplemented by an NC-17 'addendum to casefile' 'Upsidaisium', which is included.  Upsidaisium is set around Gethsemane which is a bit confusing but smut is smut.

Scully dared herself to give in to this life, to call this enough - dire middle-of-the-nights with this unbelievable parabiosis arcing between them, and the daytime eternities of pretending there was nothing new.

And now when he wanted to lie with her, kissing and talking, she thought of how they would act tomorrow, of the subsequent days until they could be like this again, and she felt a certain level of bitterness at the sham of her life, bitterness he dispelled with his hands and mouth, and with his unspoken assurance that the only certain thing we have is now.

Penumbra really has a way with words. I was really surprised that I had to create a dustjacket for this one because it's such a legendary fic.  There must be one somewhere that I don't know about. I did, however, find this fanart for it by skuuri at deviantart/ankathehuman at tumblr:

A glimpse into what Mulder was up to during 'all things'.  This one is absolutely impossible to tag, but it's only a short one, so go on and read it.

I wanted to post a Beltane fic for Beltane, so this was the obvious choice. I'm limited to providing the original web link only in accordance with Pru's wishes, but fortunately the story is in a single text file, so you can print it from your browser in PDF format [Ctrl+P], or use a plugin like EpubPress for chrome/firefox. It just dawned on me that I don't download anything using my phone so I have no idea how to do that...

Not Without You & Chained to You by Spooky’s Girl

48,000 Words

Book Cover: Not Without You & Chained to You by Spooky's Girl

Not Without You: Mulder and Scully vs the wild west.

Chained to You: 18 months after Scully leaves the bureau, fate intervenes, and Fowley tries to...

It's bothered me that I don't have many smutless fics here, so much so that I'm seriously considering combining G and PG rating tags to obfuscate that fact a little.  I've guesstimated these fics as PG, as they're not rated, nor were they summarised.  They came from the dark, cobweb-infested basement of the wayback machine as I'm pretty sure these are from Denise's pre-ATXC writings which never made it to Gossamer.   Spooky's Girl is one of my regular dustjacket providers, but unfortunately she hadn't done any for these two stories  and all my efforts were a little underwhelming.  There are days when nothing seems to work... I should post a couple of the rejects for a laugh... it was that bad.

1,000 Rainy Days by RL Montoya

43,000 Words

Book Cover: 1,000 Rainy Days by RL Montoya

When Scully begins experiencing a strange form of
empathy, it affects her work on an abduction case. Mulder reacts
oddly, becoming more and more attracted to her because of it, but
the consequences of and reasons for her new ability are more far-
reaching than either of them realize.

Although the author rated this R, it's probably at least borderline NC-17.

RL took three years to pen this X-File with MSR, set in Season 3-4.  While the agents know what they want, the uncertainty about changing their relationship keeps the UST churning for a while.  After some ups and downs they do work it all out. Oops. Spoiler alert. 😉

Thanks to the person who whispered in my ear that I'd forgotten to upload the files... I've done that a few times lately but usually caught myself... hopefully this will make me remember!

It's been a while between digests, so I thought I'd dip the proverbial back in with this smut companion for that beloved Season 3 episode, Syzygy. Enjoy.

Sounding the Depths: In which Mulder gets Lesson One in Regaining Your Partner’s Trust. A series of missing scenes from “Agua Mala.”

Interval: Bridging gaps and redefining partnership. A
conversation after Agua Mala and before Monday.

Do Overs: Continuing work on partnership. A series of missing
scenes from "Arcadia."

The Nature of the Beast: Mulder and Scully continue to work on their partnership in the aftermath of Two Fathers/One Son

ML takes us for an emotional ride from Two Fathers/One Son to Alpha, lovingly exploring the ups and downs of their relationship intertwined with the added emotional toll that came with each case.

Yet again, I found images post-posting. 🙂  These ones were the work of Circe Invidiosa (The Interval image is missing).

Aftermath by Zuffy

71,000 Words

Book Cover: Aftermath by Zuffy

This series began with the devastating effects One Son had on Mulder and Scully's partnership, and continued through their desperate attempt to understand the alien threat and the complex loyalties of Diana and other players. Parts 3 and 4 take place after Biogenesis as Scully and Mulder try to come to terms with his mysterious illness. There's a shippy end for believers...

I've been having a bit of a post One Son indulgence lately so there may be some more juicy One Son fics coming...

In this one Zuffy weaves an elaborate mytharc story around the canon from Two Fathers/One Son to Amor Fati, and challenges our beloved heroes to save each other, not knowing who they can trust.

And Chaos Shall Reign by Kronos

150,000 Words

Book Cover: And Chaos Shall Reign by Kronos

Mulder and Scully are called in to investigate the explosion of an air separation plant in Hampton, Virginia, in which more than a hundred people were killed. Mulder struggles against self-doubt and considers his future with the Bureau, even as he and Scully become embroiled in politics when their opinion as to what occurred runs contrary to that of the local FBI SAC. Despite the roadblocks, their investigation leads them to a conspiracy whose purpose could result in an even worse disaster. Skinner joins his agents in a race against time that could very well end with all their deaths, along with thousands of innocents.

Another fic that slots in after Folie a Deux, with Mulder in a mood and Scully and Skinner keeping him afloat as they investigate a complex and dangerous case.

Death Will Be Our Darling by Deborah Goldstein

95,000 Words

Book Cover: Death Will Be Our Darling by Deborah Goldstein

Mulder gets car-jacked, and after recovering enough to go back to temporary desk work doing profiles, finds out he's better than ever-- which has it's own problems-- and that certain people don't appreciate that.

Future relationship in the making. Lots of Mulderangst.

Intense Mulder!torture of the mind.  The talented Theresa from mindseye.tcjahn.com also illustrated this fic.

This story has also been recently uploaded to AO3 by a fan, so I've added an additional link to read it there.

Think Series by virtue_fluttering

Book Cover: Think Series by virtue_fluttering

Scully receives an unexpected and long overdue call while working undercover on a racy phone line.

The Think Series includes:

  • Not What you think
  • Is that what you think?
  • Try Not to Think
  • What Were You Thinking About?
  • Don't think too much

Some lighthearted silliness that eventually morphs into smut. 🙂

I've taken a guess as to the dustjacket artist. The cover came from a review of the fic by Arianne at HOF. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Abyss Looks Back, The by Kronos

94,000 Words

Book Cover: Abyss Looks Back, The by Kronos

Mulder is the Bureau’s last hope for solving a horrific child kidnapping/murder case and is assigned as behavioral specialist consultant. It’s Skinner and Scully’s job to keep him well and sane long enough to prevent another death. Similarities to both victim and killer profiles create an uneasy resonance in Mulder, who must fight to maintain enough of a professional distance so as to avoid an unrecoverable slide into the abyss. !References to child abuse.

Kronos writes a great case file with sweet angst.  Profiler!Mulder is always welcome in my home.  Thank you to Alicia for this suggestion.  There will be more of Kronos' fics to come.

This second cover was from Julie John's  long-gone aol site, and I assume it was made by her.

Book Cover: Five Times She Ogled His Ass by MonikaFileFan

Scully loves Mulder and his body, but her very favorite piece of his anatomy is... yes, you've guessed it! Scully loves Mulder's ass. These CAN be read as one shots but they do tie together in a certain way and you WON'T be disappointed by reading them all.

He heard you! Of course he did. You slam your mouth shut and intend to flick your eyes elsewhere. But Holy God! His dick is now right where his ass was and you don’t flick a thing.

Monika makes great use of Mulder's ass-ets in this series of stories. Some very hot UST which turns into some hot RST.

After the fire destroyed the basement office, Mulder and Scully were split up and go separate ways. A year and a half later they meet again and Scully discovers a terrible secret about Mulder. Determined to rebuild their relationship, she must first face her main adversary: her ex-partner himself.

Angst-o-rama after the two agents are separated.  Dr Scully has to rescue Mulder from himself. Sadly there's no smut in this one, just intense angst and DAL. I didn't realise this was on ff.net until I went to publish it, so you get a bonus source. 🙂

From the Ashes by J Greco

60,000 Words

Book Cover: From the Ashes by J Greco

When Mulder is accused of sexual assault by a confused young girl, it begins an odyssey which will cause him to doubt every aspect of his life. But as Scully works to find out the hidden truth behind the events, Mulder realizes that she is the one truth upon which he can always rely.

Jamie finds a number of imaginative ways in which to torture Mulder, and Scully is the only one he can trust to help him through an extremely difficult time.  There's lots of love in this one - no smut - but it doesn't seem to be lacking.  It's a sensitive, heartwrenching (but somehow at the same time heartwarming) novel that draws our agents closer together.  Note - there are references to sexual assault but no gory details.

Jamie's Mulder is spot on with his comebacks.  His ability to make light of a situation with lines like “I have to admit, Scully, punching me in the face seems to be more than the passing fad I had originally hoped” adds some levity to  an otherwise angsty fic.

Tempest Series by Missy P

Mulder & Scully.  Shipwrecked.

This story was written in 1996 by one of the early giants in the MSR fanfic world.  It's set around the end of season 3, so the UST factor causes issues as Mulder tries to show restraint living in close quarters with a very casually dressed Scully.

Scattering Seeds Upon a Stone by J Selby

Scully becomes dangerously obsessed in her search for the truth behind a shocking piece of evidence from the past, and Mulder, recognizing an all-too-familiar pattern of self-destruction, is determined to save her.

Scully gets to have a turn at uncovering conspiracies in this one, while Mulder's the one tending to her wounds and keeping her grounded.

Hardball by Missy P

Summary withheld at author’s request.

It's enough to say that it's a ball fic, with gossip and jealousy, misdirection and  misunderstanding.

Note: I'm unsure whether Missy has used her real name so I've just used her last initial on the site.  Her full name is on the dustjacket where it can't be googled.

As often seems to happen, I found Missy's dustjacket after making a new one.  Hers is so much better than mine.

X-trash now deleted cover. I never was 100% happy with this one so I wish I knew there was another before I uploaded...

Butt, Montana & Hellhole, Idaho by Jess M

Scully goes on a date. Mulder is incensed! Comedy and Love ensue.

Wonderland Series by Karen Rasch

47,000 words

Book Cover: Wonderland Series by Karen Rasch

Contains: Of Cabbages and Kings, Impossible Things, More Than Nothing, & Joining the Dance.

Cancer Arc: As Scully's cancer worsens, Mulder and she grow closer together, both learning that the only chance they have to survive is to draw strength from each other.

This one begins as a really sweet romance, with Mulder and Scully opening up to each other during Scully's cancer. It ends the same way, only with some (initially awkward) smut.

No Greater Love by Karen Rasch

Book Cover: No Greater Love by Karen Rasch

Mulder and Scully travel to a small town in Missouri to investigate a series of deaths involving a faith healer. Along the way, questions are raised concerning their relationship and their feelings towards matters of the spirit.  Winner of multiple 1996 Spooky awards.

I feel a bit dirty after posting so much smut during my recent brain-fog issue, so now that I'm feeling a little better I thought I'd continue with some fics with a little more substance (ie plot).  This one is an USTy classic from Karen.  The tension is almost at breaking point.  There's lots of Scully-angst, thanks to the Emily arc, and therefore Mulder-angst-by-proxy, plus some more angst thrown in for good measure.  You might need tissues for some of the angsty but sweet MSR moments.

Here's a second dustjacket image by Kris.

He Wore a Fedora Series by JHJArmstrong

Book Cover: He Wore a Fedora Series by JHJArmstrong

He Wore a Fedora: Mulder. Striptease.

Dancing Fool: How did Mulder prepare for his striptease? And how did
Scully handle the knowledge he was going to do it? Prequel to "He
Wore A Fedora." You should probably read (or re-read) that before
you tackle this.

Two to Tango: Mulder and Scully become partners in every sense of the word. Sequel to "Dancing Fool" and "He Wore A Fedora."

Another  frivolous fic for stress release.  This one features Stripper!Mulder doing his thing for Scully at a charity event.  I would have definitely preferred seeing this on TV rather than that nightmare inducing line dancing sequence, so I'm sad that M&S  don't belong to Jodi.  The introduction mentions '1-900-OH-SANTA' which I posted yesterday, but they're not related, so it's not necessary to read that before reading this.

Inebriation Series by BarenakedBostonian

Some more trashy smut with no plot to concern yourself with. Probably best enjoyed drunk.  I've included a link to the fanfiction.net version, however it's missing the final chapter.

Heineken: The first in the series, Mulder and Scully go out for some post-case drinks, primarily beer.
Merlot:  Mulder and Scully discuss the happenings of the previous story, drink wine and eat salad and chicken.
Smirnoff: Another night with our two favorite agents. Substitute the wine for some vodka and shake...
Cuervo Gold: Mulder and Scully go to a Halloween party? With the Gunmen? Yes and yes, but it's believeable! With tequila, now we're getting  somewhere!
Courvoisier: Mulder and Scully go out to dinner and don't get drunk! Okay, so they're a little tipsy, but he shows her how much she means to him.
Mike's Hard Lemonade*: A power hour and some Mike's hard lemonade... on a hot and sticky night.
Jello Shots*: Jello is just so jiggly! How much fun can Mulder and Scully have with it?
*written with TriplePirouette

My depression and anxiety have been troubling me for the past week or so, so I'm trying to self-medicate with some mindless drunkfic.

D is for Dangerous by Donnilee

19,700 Words

Mulder reacts to the comments of some less than friendly

This is one of my favourites of Donnilee's Alphabet stories. It may be a little implausible and inappropriate, but it sizzles.  When CC gets implausible and inappropriate it's never any fun.

Healing Waters Series by xgirl

Book Cover: Healing Waters Series by xgirl
Part of the Crossing Lines series:

XGirl continues the Crossing Lines universe, taking Mulder and Scully from after Sixth Extinction through most of Season 7 with angst and love.  There are two R rated stories in this section - if you want to skip the smut, XGirl has PG rated versions on her website.

I: Truths Untold: In the dark hours before the early morning, the greatest truths out there may well be the unspoken ones. [PG]
II: Reconnection: A day at the beach and a story about a boy and his sandcastle spaceship. [PG]
III: Acceptance: Mulder and Scully take a significant personal step forward after a severe blow to his psyche. (Sein und Seit/Closure) [R]
IV: Just Breathe: Scully finds it difficult to deal with a side of Mulder she's never seen before in the aftermath of her adventure with CSM (En Ami). [PG]
V: Truths Revealed: Mulder and Scully realize that they have to deal with the memory of Diana if they want to move ahead. (all things) [PG]
VI: Waters Edge: The end of the road finally arrives for Mulder and Scully.[R]

XGirl's thoughts on the Post-Fight the Future X-Files (and even post Redux) very much mirror my own. It lost momentum. It tried to crush the Mulder-Scully dynamic, before going on to crush their spirits and change their beliefs.  Her website, xgirl's x-files x-perience, has an analysis of each episode, both on the original watch and a rewatch on the 20th anniversary. The Crossing Lines universe is her attempt to fix up some of the wrongs in Seasons 6 and 7.

Part of the Crossing Lines series:
xgirl's introduction to the Crossing Lines universe:

(For a Glimpse of "What Could Have Been")

For those of you unfamiliar with my work, all of my stories take place in what has become known as the "Crossing Lines" universe. It was the name of my first fanfic, an "unplanned" effort that ended up paving the path for my version of Mulder and Scully following their 1998 big screen adventure.

This first set of stories — beginning with Crossing Lines and ending with Two Steps Back — essentially take place during the TV series' sixth season.  It continues in the Healing Waters series.

CROSSING LINES: Released March 1999 — PG — Spoilers for Fight the Future — Our favorite long suffering couple deal with their continuing and changing relationship after the "events in the hallway" and finally acknowledge the existence of the "L" word. Along the way, they establish closure on some important issues of the past year, including Mulder's unresolved guilt over Scully's illness.

WHEN: Released September 1999 — PG-13 — Spoilers for Fight the Future — Scully and Mulder each reflect on an eye-opening night of discussion.

REPARATION: Released March 1999 — PG-13 — Spoilers for One Son — After being a big-time jerk to Scully, Mulder must make amends.

IN MY LIFE: Released April 1999 — PG — Spoilers for Arcadia — Mulder celebrates life with Scully on a very special day.

SOUL ON SOUL: Released July 1999 — PG — Spoilers for Field Trip — In the immortal words of Eddie Van Blundht, "What's stopping us?"

TWO STEPS BACK: Released August 1999 — PG-13 — Spoilers for Rain King — The strange wackiness of the Rain King encounter takes a serious turn when Mulder and Scully are faced with revisiting an old fear.

xgirl fixes some of the post FTF faults in this series of series.  For more information on her writing, as well as episode reviews, you can still visit xgirl's x-files xperience  at http://xgirlsfanfic.blogspot.com.

XGirl has kindly provided her 10th Anniversary Edition of the complete series for download if you prefer.  Along with the 14 stories in the Crossing Lines universe, there are also some updated author notes etc.  Download the pdf file here.

  • Renegade and Renegade: Los Angeles  [R]
Alternate universe, XFNoir. Sometime in the near future, Mulder and Scully race against time to prevent the fruition of the project. Along the way, they make a horrific discovery of betrayal at the highest levels of government. Adult themes, violent content.

In Dawson's own words:

As you should all now know, XFBandit is Dawson E. Rambo's psuedonym.

Bandit allows me to explore certain writing techniques. Most of the Bandit stories don't have any real heft to them. They're (forgive me) gossamer light tendrils of fiction, designed to allow me to test a certain theme, to write a scene I'd always wanted to see, or even just a single line of dialog that I'd made up and always wanted to see in a fic, but could never manage in any of my other stuff. (The line "...and kissing your partner is about six of them..." in Carnac Obsessions is one of those lines.)

I hope you enjoy my Bandit stories. I know I had fun writing 'em.

The Complete Revelations Series
This series takes place during the first season of The X-Files, beginning the morning after the last scene in The Jersey Devil and ending prior to the Season One finale,  The Erlenmeyer Flask.

The full series is split into three volumes, as follows:
VOLUME ONE:

1. REVELATIONS 1: DAWN
(This has been mislabelled as "Revelations" at the top of each volume) Let us return to the days of yesteryear when Scully's abduction, bounty hunters, clones and cancer are still far in the future. It's the morning after the Jersey Devil case, Scully is dismayed to be given a temporary reassignment while her new partner, Fox Mulder, does some work for VCS. Lots of FIRSTS in this one for these two. PG13 for some violence and occasional adult topics.
2. REVELATIONS 2: THE BOX
Still feeling the affects from a hellish case, Mulder and Scully are handed a little administrative task that develops into something both sinister and dangerous as a grumpy pair of agents are forced to endure each other's company under VERY confined conditions.

VOLUME TWO:
3. THE VACATION
4. THE ABDUCTEE
5. MILE HIGH
6. MEMORIES

VOLUME THREE:
7. JUST THE TWO OF US
8. SKUNKED AGAIN

This is a truly epic series.  It began as one relatively short story, which was then combined with another, and then the complete series was built around them.  Sue often had multiple parts being written at once over the four years it took to complete. It all came together in the end, and due to the fact that only some parts are novel-length in their own right, it's hard to find the full series compiled in the one place.   It's been split into three volumes for size, and since I found three covers so that worked out well.

This series is smut-lite.  It has lots of UST and romance, but it's not explicit. That doesn't mean it's not good. 😉 According to Sue, "... the whole series is rated PG-13 for adult themes and some violence and a few bad words. The very last chapter (of Revelations 7) pushes the edges of PG13 all the way to 'R' but is suggested rather than graphic. " In this part of the world it would probably be given an MA-15+ rating overall.

Because of its length - the entire series is about 550,000 words - I've split the 8 parts over three volumes.    If you're bandwidth-restricted, the ePub files are the smallest (each under 500kb), the PDF files are the largest (1.5 - 2mb each) and the txt files each hover around the 1mb mark.  I've included a zip file of all three volumes with this one so if you're short on bandwidth you can download all three text files for just over 1mb and convert them to another format yourself if  you want.  Many of the stories can be read as stand-alones so you don't need to read the whole series at once.

Today's the 20th anniversary of Field Trip's first airing in this part of the world, so I've gone with a post Field Trip casefile.  It's PG but it doesn't need the smut. It has a nice relaxed UST feel and lots of flirtines intermingled with a revisit with an old monster of the week.

42,000 words

Book Cover: Tam Lin by Pequod

Myth and murder combine in a remote Scottish village and Mulder and Scully investigate.

Pequod gives us that ever-infuriating Mulder who withholds important details but gets away with it because he's adorable.  The plot is strong, as is the UST, until PartyDress!Scully tips that over the edge.  It's a well-written tale with the humour and banter that made me fall in love with Mulder and Scully, set in the beautiful Scottish countryside. And Kilt!Mulder even makes a cameo. 🙂

Poconos by Jess M

17,000 words

Book Cover: Poconos by Jess M

Mulder and Scully looking into a series of mysterious deaths (do they ever do anything ELSE?) in that honeymoon capital of the world, the Poconos.

Another very sexy case file from Jess M. She stirs a large dollop of humour into this one and garnishes it with a smut-cherry on top.

I'm into abandoned stuff, so I found this HuffPost Article quite interesting: The Honeymoon Capital of the World is now Beautifully Abandoned.

Shipper’s Digest 01: A Collection of Close Encounters

27,000 words

SHIPPER'S DIGEST 1: CRAWL SPACE AND OTHER CLOSE ENCOUNTERS including:

This is my first attempt at an anthology of themed stories by different authors.  There are eight "Tight Quarters" fics included, with each story having between 1500 and 5500 words.  Let me know if you'd like more themed anthologies and if so feel free to make suggestions.

Tootsie Pop I-III by EvieLouise

43,000 words

Book Cover: Tootsie Pop I-III by EvieLouise

CONTENT WARNING: The following story is contrived, cliche-ridden, unrealistic, and unhygienic. And really, really smutty. ~Sap alert~ as well. Don't venture further unless you dig that kind of thing

Tootsie Pop
After returning from an assignment where Mulder inadvertantly caught sight of Scully in her underwear, a cliched evening of boring paperwork was made more interesting by Mulder seeing even more of Scully.

Tootsie Pop II: Marshmallows & Mints
Summary: Mulder and Scully go on another nice trip to the forest, or thereabouts, share conversation and confections, and engage in other fun adult activities.

Tootsie Pop II: JellyBellies and Twang
SUMMARY: Mulder and Scully travel to Austin, Texas, for a boring conference, but they manage to accomplish a whole busload of fun and naughty stuff CC never lets them do. A fluffy smut biscuit—with gravy.

EvieLouise lets them have a bit of fun.

I also discovered, when editing the table of contents in this fic, that the copy on annex-files.com is missing TPII chapter 5, which is definitely in this  version.

EvieLouise also mentioned some visual elements in her story.  These are in the ePub and PDF versions, but I'll put them here for .txt people.

Queen of Hearts by Syntax6

18,500 words

Book Cover: Queen of Hearts by Syntax6

In early season five, during Scully's resurrection and Mulder's crisis of faith, they travel to small-town Nebraska to investigate a series of portentous crop circles and end up plumbing the mysteries of the human heart.

Syntax6 returned to her fandom roots in 2018 to give us this special little casefile, with a couple of bonus tropes for good measure.  I tried to do an old-skool type cover to complement it, but collages have never been my strong point...

I suggest ficsave.xyz if you'd like to download from fanfiction.net.

Lessons Series by Jori & MoJo

53,000 words

Book Cover: Lessons Series by Jori & MoJo

Lessons I: Racked by Jori  - Scully picks the next game.
Lessons II: Head's Up by MoJo - After Racked, Mulder decides to teach Scully a new game.
Lessons III: Quiver by Jori - Scully tries to improve Mulder's aim.
Lessons IV: Fore Play by MoJo - Mulder engages in a little action on the fairway with Scully.
Lessons V: On the Fly by Jori - Scully teaches Mulder the finer art of using lines and handling his fly.
Lessons VI: Double Down by MoJo - Mulder shows Scully how to go *double down* in darts.
Lessons VII: Soaring by Jori - It's time to take learning to a new, higher level.
Lessons VIII: Joyride by MoJo - It's time to take learning to a new, higher level.
Lessons IX: Swing Time by Jori - After their previous 'accident', Scully and Mulder hit the bargain basement for their next lesson.
Lessons X: Fast Lane by MoJo - Mulder and Scully move into a faster lane.
Lessons XI: Field of Play by Jori - The games continue, but their meanings have changed so much. Scully gets her kicks with Mulder during a late night soccer match.
Lessons XII: Body Checking by MoJo - Mulder calls a penalty on Scully out on the ice.
Lessons XIII: Over the Net by Jori & MoJo - Mulder and Scully agree to meet on the courts for the ultimate singles match.
Lessons XIV: Bringing it Home by MoJo & Jori - Months after their first 'lesson' together on the baseball diamond, Mulder and Scully try to bring it on home.

After yesterday's mytharc fic, I figured some irreverent fun times were in order.  Jori & Mojo take the spirit of the baseball lesson at the end of The UnNatural and run wild with it.  These stories are overflowing with UST and innuendo and inappropriate partnerly behaviour in various settings until Moose & Squirrel finally figure out what the lessons are really about. 😉

Butterflies All Tied Up Universe by bugs

40,000 words

Book Cover: Butterflies All Tied Up Universe by bugs

Butterflies All Tied Up: Mulder and Scully are back to work at the X-files, but a madman in their midst finally sends their relationship in a new direction, and someone is watching.

Orchids in Bloom: A fluffy bit of smut, so those persons who are on a higher plane should fly away. Mulder comes home drunk from a bachelor's party and gets the third degree.

Even Doves Have Pride: In the three whirlwind months since M/S have become involved, you'd think they would be entwined in a congenial
union. Perhaps, but suddenly things are moving too quickly for Scully.

Even Doves Have Pride II: The moment of truth has arrived for Mulder and he's suffering from some anxiety.

This is bugs' first foray into fan fiction, which she acknowledges may be a tad unrealistic.  That thought did cross my mind on occasion, but it's not too difficult to go with it.  The entire story is told through the eyes of a third person, giving it a voyeuristic feel.  But I do love a third party perspective on the complicated Mulder-Scully relationship.

I'm now re-releasing this one as I've added the remaining stories in this universe to the file.  Bugs kindly created artwork for each of the stories, which you can find in the ePub & PDF versions.

Bittersweet Release by Adara

16,000 words

Book Cover: Bittersweet Release by Adara

“Scully?” One more whispered question. Slowly, unbelievably, she formed the words.

“Yes, Mulder. We’ll stay.”

She didn’t dare look at him. She barely heard him over the music: “Oh, Scully …”

M&S find better things to do than speak to some informant...

Speedo Optional by Thalia D’Muse

8,400 words

Book Cover: Speedo Optional by Thalia D'Muse

A string of bizarre murders send Mulder and Scully to a secluded
resort in Florida.

This is a casefile with the added complication of a rather uncomfortable setting for our agents.  Of course Mulder is a lot more amenable to going with the flow than Scully.

Arcadia Series by Ms31x129

9,800 words

Book Cover: Arcadia Series by Ms31x129

Filling in the gaps before, during and after Arcadia, with alternating POVs.

Yes it's another Arcadia fic.  This one's a lot shorter on plot than Illusions - it's pretty much just a fun, irreverant, frolicsome smutromp.  Scully gets to play a little one-on-one with Mulder, and it turns into one of those lurid fics that CC warned us about.  Ms AM has decided to out herself as her current author name: Ms31x129

Ms31x129 also provided her own cover, below, which is on the actual fics.

Aftershock & Time by Terma99

44,500 words

Book Cover: Aftershock & Time by Terma99

Aftershock: Agents Mulder and Scully assist the San Francisco Police Department in tracking down a mysterious strangler in the aftermath of a 6.7 earthquake.

Time: Returning to San Francisco, Mulder and Scully discover that becoming lovers is just a matter of time.

These aren't quite a series; but they're in the same universe (or city at least).  Aftershock is a casefile with UST that's pretty high on the Richter Scale, winning first place for casefiles in the 1999 Spooky Awards.  Then Time sees Mulder and Scully return to San Francisco for some much needed time off. Time also got a first place for NC-17 MSR in the 1999 Spooky awards.  Terma99 came in second place for Outstanding Author that year - there'll definitely be more of her fics posted here.  It's been a very long time since I read these so some tags may be missing.

Second to Last Seven Eleven by Punk & Sab

20,000 words

Book Cover: Second to Last Seven Eleven by Punk & Sab

Across the street, a bank clock proclaimed it was 99 degrees, and the sky was black from another fire.  Written as V. Salmone.

Punk has conveniently put this one on AO3 for us.  This is an angsty tale with some unexpected twists and the clever appropriation of absent family members...

Stiff One, A by ShannonK

10,000 words

Book Cover: Stiff One, A by ShannonK

A Stiff One is Shannon's first time at a first time fic.  Some bar-inspired smut.

ShannonK* is legendary for her writing of rather steamy fics.  Try not to groan too loudly and her choice of dance tunes (i don't know how many fics I've read over the years with these songs played) and just go with it.  Lick. Drink. Suck. Hot damn.

*I've obfuscated Shannon's full name because I'm under the impression she no longer wants it used.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Contact High by Penumbra

16,000 words

Book Cover: Contact High by Penumbra

Scully drops by Mulder’s apartment one evening and one thing sort of leads to another. Colonization metaphors abound. Mulder’s new bed has a cameo.

I love Penumbra's post-ep for Field Trip.  These are the hallucinations CC didn't want us to know Mulder and Scully shared. Just try to ignore the use of the F word. (You'll know what I mean - that awkward F word).

Mutual Series by JessM

17,000 words

Book Cover: Mutual Series by JessM

Mutual: Scully is caught doing something... erm... private. Mulder decides to let her know the feelings are mutual.
Mutual II: Son of Mutual: Back by popular demand, Mulder and Scully continue to prove to each other that the feeling is... you got it, Mutual.
Mutual III: This Time It's Personal: Returning in the third installment of this little series, Mulder and Scully go to the Bureau Ball (thanks to whoever gave me the idea to try and blow the lid off that cliche-ridden experience) and find themselves... in between a rock and a *hard* place?
Mutual IV: Mutual in Space: Mulder and Scully finally do the deed and hundreds of fan fic readers around the world get off my back...

Mulder, Scully, and some tropelicious smut, thanks to the wonderful JessM.

This dustjacket was inspired  by (ie totally ripped off from) Fiona's "NightFlight" image, which I believe is an illustration for Sheryl Martin's story of the same name.  I can't post it until I get a few more fics between M & N so the blatant ripoff isn't so blatant...

99 and 44/100ths Percent Done by Sarah Segretti

15,000 words

Book Cover: 99 and 44/100ths Percent Done by Sarah Segretti

Two mysterious and surprising cases -- plus encounters with
manhole covers, ice cream and pigs -- lead Scully and Mulder down an
unexpected path: the road home.

This is an improv fic, with just a sprinkling of mytharc.
