Field Where… (The) Series by Ginef

38,000 Words

The Field Where... series cover

The Field Where I Lied: Scully reflects on her relationship with Mulder and how the events of the episode TFWID will change things. This is not a pretty story, nor does it have a happy ending (but it does leave the potential for one).

The Field Where She Lied: Mulder takes a good, hard look at his life and what the events of the episode TFWID have done to it. (!CW - suicidal ideation)

The Field Where Max Fenig Arrived: Mulder and Scully are asked to assist Scotland Yard on a case involving a series of murders and possible alien abductions in Southern England while struggling to cope with their changing relationship.

Post-eps for "The Field Where I Died".

Ginef claims to have considered TFWID one of the best episodes in a long time, but then was compelled to 'fix' it with fanfic. 😛 Sorry, Ginef, that's my own attitude towards the episode coming through. Not that it was that bad, it just wasn't that good either IMHO.

Anyway, as with many, many, many X-Files episodes, it had plenty of plot holes and glitches to inspire fanfic, and Ginef originally took this on the angst route, before shoving them together on a case to sort things out.

They're in the UK again as they attempt to track down mysterious abductors and killers. In fact, after reading around 20 UK fics to decide which ones I'd post, the UK theme is going to carry over to next week so I hope you're enjoying the change in location.  😀

How I Slept With My Partner (Without Really Trying) by JL

How I Slept With My Partner cover

"How I Slept With My Partner (Without Really Trying)" is just the "secret-header-name" for some notes Jose Chung is gathering for his next fiction novel. He's asked me, Jaime Lyn, to conduct a few interviews for him, as he is sick at home with the flu. All personal accounts contained, herein, are the property of Dana Katherine Scully and Fox William Mulder. The names will be changed, of course, but the accounts will most likely remain intact. This story includes the previously authored "How to Blend in With Normal People".

I quite enjoy a deliberate Mary-Sue. This is a long fic, with a complicated Mulder and Scully and all their baggage interwoven with humour. It does get quite angsty in places.

I know it's hard to believe, but this is actually a season 8/9 fic (sans Doggett & Reyes) in which William exists.  It must be a Christmas miracle.

Vegas Strip by GirlGone, Audrey C & Thalia

Vegas Strip cover

What do you get when you put Mulder and Scully in Las Vegas? Well, we can't really say, because we don't want to spoil it for you, but it involves gambling, Vegas Tea, strippers, a drunk John Shiban, a trio of undauntable women and automatic flushing toilets.

Authors’ Notes: This is a round robin Romantic Farce. We have taken great liberties with the characters and they didn’t seem to mind, honest. In fact, they rather enjoyed it. Bad characters. Bad bad characters! What would Chris Carter say? If he recovered from the heart attack, that is.

Some lighthearted fun with Mulder & Scully in Vegas written back in 1997. It's a round-robin fic so anything can happen.  I always think it's fun to put our heroes in these ridiculous awkward situations to see how they cope.

OK, so I may have a thing about Naked!Mulder... Although I made this cover just before the Great Hard Drive Crash of 2021 so I can't entirely blame this fixation on my recent brain shutdown... I would have liked to have played with the original photoshop file a little longer but it no longer exists - I'm just lucky I'd already saved the cover with the fic so it didn't disappear forever like many of the covers I made at the time. I'm still eternally grateful that my fic collection lived on a separate hard drive. I'm also better at backing things up now 🙂

Book One: Mulder and Scully have to fight for their positions on the X-Files.

Book Two:  Part One - Thanksgiving + Part Two  - Christmas (to Chapter 14 - last updated Dec 12, 2004)

Although this edition has an additional part to those available at Gossamer, it comes incomplete. While it didn't make it to its final destination, it does have a satisfactory ending.

Book One of this series is a doozy. Full of delicious angst and heartbreak after Mulder and Scully are caught in a compromising position.

It does lose momentum in Book Two, probably because it never made it to where it was going; Book Two and the planned Book Three were never completed. You may want to stick with Book One only, but it's worth adding the opening of Book Two as an epilogue, both for the humour and to know where things ended up after the preceding angstfest. 😉

Awakening (The) by Jeylan

Awakening cover

Mulder & Scully, younger and less world-weary, make an unplanned journey to a remote ocean beach. Forget the relentless way series TV has ground them down, this story is an invitation to turn back the clock. For incurable Romantics only.

Reading the headers had me smiling - Jeylan appears to share my opinions about a certain creator, but at least she turned this into a positive by writing this awesome story in response to her gripes. Just watch out for that crack in the fourth wall that Jeylan throws in.

Mulder and Scully need all the vacations they can get, even if they have to gatecrash the other's...

Barnyard Series by Dark Nascent

Barnyard Cover

The complete Barnyard Series

  • Lambs to the Slaughter: Your strongest enemy is one who has nothing left to lose. You know how important Agent Mulder is to the equation. You don't want to turn one man's fight into a crusade. Excuses, excuses.
  • Said the Spider to the Fly: The truth about Samantha Mulder. Or: Nascent develops her split personality.
  • From Ass to Zebra: Okay. So what if, like, Vince Gilligan was me, and I was Vince? I am he, and he is me, and we are all together! Step aside, Vinzeno. Let D.N. show you how it's DONE.
  • Cockfighting: Guess
  • Swine of the Prodigal Son: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday's gonna be all right.
  • Cattle Chutes:  You remember that game "Chutes and Ladders?" If not, you're old. I bet Mulder and Scully play really well.
  • EIEIO: The truth is out there.

!Content Warning: Character deaths - everyone dies, often more than once, in multiple ways, but it is humour.  There's also slash in "Cockfighting", but nothing graphic.

Have you ever wanted to be immunised against the anguish of character death? Well this is the series for you.

Nascent's evil side takes over and she goes on a rampage of character death, in a multitude of imaginative ways.  Both beloved and detested characters suffer at the hands of Dark Nascent, and I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times.

Nascent breaks all the fanfic rules with this series, but she pulls it off magnificently.

Year of Election by Paul W

Year of Election cover

Mulder and Scully run for president... as Republicans. Sadly this was 1996 though. 😉

This is a special fic to distract our American readers from the trauma of the US Presidential election.  It's full of humourous situations as our heroes deal with the ups and downs of politics.  I played this in the car on my long drive to the far north of Australia and did manage to laugh out loud a few times.  It features the best episode of Larry King ever, which sadly never made it to air. 🙁

I've been temporarily distracted by having to offer my services at the Tolga Bat Hospital, but I'll try to update when I can.

The lovely Observer of the Universe has volunteered to come in and fix up some tags and things, which I'm eternally thankful for. Hopefully we can get some new exciting things happening once bat season is dealt with...

Mulder and Scully set out to solve a case. The Author tags along. Literally.

This fic makes me want to proposition Jess too... if only I didn't have to compete with Mulder and Scully to do so.  I love this, in the same way that I love it when the show makes fun of itself.   Jess bravely Mary-Sue's herself in order to visit Moose & Squirrel off-season and discovers that their off-screen personas are exactly as we imagine...

God! Stop Following Me Around!: Mulder and Scully are convinced that something, anything, is paranormal about MY life. They pester me about it. Frequently.

The Case of the Jolly Fat Men:  Sequel to God! Stop Following me around! Two years later a new pair of agents come to ask me for help on a case. And this time they think they're tracking Santa!

These masterpieces by Neoxphile tickled my funnybone. I do like a bit of snark, I must admit.  I laugh just thinking about these fics.

The cover image for Jolly Fat Men features photography (sans Santa) by NeoX's dad. The family aspect just adds to the joy these fics provide.  Thanks to NeoX for permission to post these here. 🙂 You can find Neoxphile's fics and much more good stuff at  Mulder's Creek.

Continuity Series I & II by Alelou

Book Cover: Continuity Series I & II by Alelou

I: A look at season 7 from all things onwards in light of the revelations in Within.

II - Per Manum Fractorum: Missing dialogue that would have explained
much that is puzzling in Per Manum.

Finally a G-rated fic!  This is very funny.  Alelou fills in some missing scenes  to make more sense of Season 8.  We could really have used Alelou's help with more than just Season 8 storylines.

As much as I liked how the two covers Tre made had very little continuity in themselves, I couldn't help but try to use a background and overlay to fill in some missing pieces myself to bring the two images together. These are the originals.

I'm getting closer to fixing everything, but there may still be temporary breakages as I'm still doing long-overduebackground stuff. Thanks for being patient.
