Sirens by Bexbel

Sirens cover

Greek mythology X-file, sex and blood. A messy combination.

It's not the most detailed case story ever written, but it does get our heroes together on a beach in Greece... There's also a bit of friction between them, with Mulder leaving out vital information, and they almost come to fisticuffs. I quite enjoy a fight, providing they make up. And they do. 🙂

This is another unreleased upload that I had a change of mind about at the time. I'd decided that it would be easier to prepare the uploads as I was listening to the fic and I'd be able to tag as I listened. Unfortunately the story didn't turn out to be as good as I remembered it being, but I'd already done the hard work, so I kept it here for an emergency release.  It does have its highlights...

So Shall You Reap by Stef Davies

So Shall You Reap cover

Mulder and Scully travel to the UK to help in the search for Senator Matheson's wife. Guess who's there to 'help'?

We're still in the UK, this time late in Season 3. Our agents had vacation plans - together - that were shelved when first Mulder, then both of them were sent to Britain.  Phoebe is being Phoebe, showing strong narcissistic traits and toying with Mulder (and Scully). He finally manages to resist, not before really pissing Scully off. Fortunately for him, Scully is forgiving, and there's also some added bonus Kickass!Scully near the end. 🙂

Field Where… (The) Series by Ginef

38,000 Words

The Field Where... series cover

The Field Where I Lied: Scully reflects on her relationship with Mulder and how the events of the episode TFWID will change things. This is not a pretty story, nor does it have a happy ending (but it does leave the potential for one).

The Field Where She Lied: Mulder takes a good, hard look at his life and what the events of the episode TFWID have done to it. (!CW - suicidal ideation)

The Field Where Max Fenig Arrived: Mulder and Scully are asked to assist Scotland Yard on a case involving a series of murders and possible alien abductions in Southern England while struggling to cope with their changing relationship.

Post-eps for "The Field Where I Died".

Ginef claims to have considered TFWID one of the best episodes in a long time, but then was compelled to 'fix' it with fanfic. 😛 Sorry, Ginef, that's my own attitude towards the episode coming through. Not that it was that bad, it just wasn't that good either IMHO.

Anyway, as with many, many, many X-Files episodes, it had plenty of plot holes and glitches to inspire fanfic, and Ginef originally took this on the angst route, before shoving them together on a case to sort things out.

They're in the UK again as they attempt to track down mysterious abductors and killers. In fact, after reading around 20 UK fics to decide which ones I'd post, the UK theme is going to carry over to next week so I hope you're enjoying the change in location.  😀

Hard Day’s Night (A) and MPV by frogdoggie

A Hard Day's Night / MVP cover

A Hard Day's Night: ‘A boy’s night’ out forces Fox Mulder to deal with his real feelings regarding Dana Scully.

MPV: Scully and Mulder have yet another fascinating adventure in Wisconsin involving a flat tire, a motel and the Green Bay Packers.

It's been a doggie themed week, finishing today  with more frogdoggie. It's  celebration of Pants-Free Day today, and Mulder forgets an important part of his wardrobe. Sadly he doesn't leave his apartment though, that would have been something to see... *goes off to search her fic library for stories of Mulder forgetting to wear any pants to the office*

I've uploaded the underlying image from this cover (and a few others) to the top-secret "Under the Covers" gallery. The password to view the adults-only smut gallery is "smut".   Well, I had to make it something I'd remember...

Teetering by MD1016

Teetering cover

Mulder invites Scully to meet him at a bar, and she accepts.

MD1016. One of my very favourite authors. She's brought her wonderful angst and the smut together again in this short fic.

Between Then And Now & One More Step by Anne Haynes

5,400 Words

Between Then And Now + One More Step cover

Between Then & Now: Mulder makes a late night visit before they start back at work.

One More Step: A continuation of “Between Then and Now” .

This was written after the movie but before Season 6, so it's still assumed that our agents are starting back in their basement office.  Scully's sitting at home in her satin PJs thinking about that hallway kiss when Mulder makes a non-intoxicated (but intoxicating) 2am appearance...

Flights by Suzanne Bickerstaffe

Flights cover

The pair are on the trail of a serial killer with an odd penchant for souvenirs, while Mulder helps Scully to deal with a shattering experience.

Some classic 'Mulder and Scully tracking down a serial killer' action, where only their unique perspective will lead to the killer, putting them in danger.

This was written and set early in the series, with their relationship commensurate with that timeframe: friendship and respect. It only has the higher rating due to adult themes.

I'll make sure I post something for the smut-fiends on Wednesday, as otherwise it's going to be a noromo week. 🙂

Late Night at the High Noon by Mike Ghost

Late Night at the High Noon cover

A long night, an empty motel lot in a desert, and music that never stops. Fear is not what always goes bump in the night, or what lies in the shadow behind every tree in an unlit park, or even the hand that reaches below our bed at night. Fear is often personal... close to the heart. Find out what awaits Mulder and Scully at the end of the late night in the High Noon Stay.

This one's a rare treat. The PDF file was painstakingly typeset on 'non-wood paper' by Mike.  Although Mike's rated it higher, it's more implied smut so I've left if at his lower rating.

I finally did some site upgrades this weekend and despite there being an unintended change to most of the book pages it's come through unscathed, which is fortunate because I totally annihilated the test site I tried it out on first. My poor little brain is so overtaxed that there's no way I can make sense of anything else until I've had a good few days' sleep.

Finding Rokovoko by Prufrock’s Love

Finding Rokovoko cover

A case in the Florida Everglades takes Mulder and Scully on a terrifying journey nowhere. The air conditioning and the laws of physics won’t work. She wants dinner and not to die. He dreams of a boy on the beach and not being Captain Ahab. A love story of absolute evil and existential doubt and truth that isn’t found on the free map from the Visitor Center.

As usual, as this is a Prufrock's Love story, I am unable to host it here so the link goes to the story at one of Mimic's sites.

Pru reminded me of just how envious I am of her cleverness and storywriting with this one. There is a gorgeous Mulder-Scully relationship here that tugs at the heartstrings as Pru tenderly takes us through the cancer arc with the added awkwardness of a sudden relationship change.

This was the story that I was getting vague memories of when reading AlienQueequeg's Gates of Hell but couldn't remember past that vague feeling of a similar circumstance. It was only that I was feeling warm & fuzzy after rescuing a kookaburra today that I put 'kookaburra' in my fanfic search program and this popped up. That kookaburra, currently recuperating at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, managed to bring me from worry to warm fuzzies twice today.

Usually Wednesdays are for short fics, but I didn't have another one ready to go so I figured that because Monday's release was relatively short it would all even out somewhere along the line....

How I Slept With My Partner (Without Really Trying) by JL

How I Slept With My Partner cover

"How I Slept With My Partner (Without Really Trying)" is just the "secret-header-name" for some notes Jose Chung is gathering for his next fiction novel. He's asked me, Jaime Lyn, to conduct a few interviews for him, as he is sick at home with the flu. All personal accounts contained, herein, are the property of Dana Katherine Scully and Fox William Mulder. The names will be changed, of course, but the accounts will most likely remain intact. This story includes the previously authored "How to Blend in With Normal People".

I quite enjoy a deliberate Mary-Sue. This is a long fic, with a complicated Mulder and Scully and all their baggage interwoven with humour. It does get quite angsty in places.

I know it's hard to believe, but this is actually a season 8/9 fic (sans Doggett & Reyes) in which William exists.  It must be a Christmas miracle.

Silver Bracelet Series, The by Brandon D Ray

49,000 Words

Silver Bracelet Series cover

This story deals with Dana Scully's infertility, as well as her religious faith, and attempts to explore how those two issues might affect a romantic relationship with Fox Mulder.  I have attempted to avoid excessive sap, and there is more than a little angst herein.  However, this is basically a happy story, because I'm basically a happy guy.

A classic Christmas series from Brandon Ray.

There are also another couple of covers by Rachel.

Drug Rings, Black Bikinis & Don Henley by Taylor

20,000 Words

Drug Rings Black Bikinis cover

One word: undercover. Oh, and some cage dancing.

Mulder and Scully go undercover as a married couple, acting like irresponsible 20-somethings. Moose & Squirrel get closer, but they really have to work on that glitch in one particular frequency of their silent communication...

Resolve by Kate M

No summary was provided so I'll have a stab at it: Mulder and Scully are called in to investigate a missing scientist.  They discover a lot more.

"This woman is obviously consumed by her work. It's become the most important thing in her life.  Yet she can't talk to her husband about it. She's got to need someone, someone she can talk to, someone she can trust. Who better than someone she works with? Someone who knows what she deals with everyday, someone who will understand what she does, who knows why it's so important to her. You can't go through life without confiding in someone, keeping everything inside. Everyone needs someone, Mulder, and ..." Her voice trailed off. He was staring at her.

It's that time in Season 3 when our agents often don't seem to be on the same page, and there's a bit of a gulf between them. It's not that they're getting on each other's nerves like CC would have us believe... Scully's realising how deep she's gotten & is questioning her life.

Sleep is Sweeter: Aftermath by M Partous

Sleep is Sweeter Aftermath cover

Forget Jose Chung, fake alien autopsies and sweet potato pie. The real X-File? What actually happened in the motel room that night…

Author's Note: This is really meant as a tribute to Anne Haynes, whose sonnet series continues to entertain me to no end. "Sleep is Sweeter" is her contribution to the Jose Chung "What-really-happened-in-that-hotel-room-that-night" scene; I felt Chris Carter missed a real opportunity to make fun of us relationshippers by putting them in bed together and, as Paula (AKA Anne) suggests, making what subsequently happened very unclear.

It probably doesn't matter too much about interchanging Paula/Anne's name now, but I still have trouble doing it. Sleep is Sweeter is in the Sonnet Series. You should really read it first. This story takes Sleep is Sweeter and runs wild with it.

Schizophrenic Series by JLB

Schizophrenic Series cover

SCHIZOPHRENIC: Scully deals with her split personalities, and what it means for she and Mulder.

BREAKDOWN: Tonight we’re different. Mulder will not speak.

TREATMENT: Mulder gives Scully what she wants…

SHATTERED: Was it a mistake?”

JLB was pissy with Mulder after "One Son" at the writing of this series.  As a result, we were blessed with a moody, desperate series of stories, with our heroes seemingly losing themselves and each other.  They take their discontent out on each other sexually while they try to work through their issues.

Light Trippers (The) by Hawthorne Kessler

Light Trippers cover

A tip from the Lone Gunmen about a secret military installation leads Mulder and Scully into a very surprising adventure.

The Lone Gunmen go on a road trip this time, when they decide to tag along on a case they passed on to Mulder.  Things were already awkward when they arrived the morning after...

I do like how the Gunmen just decided they wanted a piece of the action (no not that action) and followed along. There should be more of it.

Worth Breaking by Narida Law

Book Cover: Worth Breaking by Narida Law

Mulder and Scully embark on a relationship neither is able to handle, and the question of what is or isn’t worth breaking must be answered.

The delicious angst of Mulder and Scully deluding themselves into believing they can have just a physical relationship and their obliviousness to the others' feelings...

I'm not sure of the artist who made the main dustjacket above.  Nerida only credited the artists of the two below, so it may have been made by her.  The one on the left, below, is by Kimpa.  Trixie made the one on the right. Unfortunately the original no longer exists, only a thumbnail (which is smaller than an actual thumbnail), however Trixie's description below might let you imagine it better 🙂

Trixie's explanations for the various images depicted in her cover:
THE MAIN IMAGE: Um...duh.
THE TEXT: A portion of Mulder's journal entry from Chapter Seven.
MULDER AND SCULLY, FAR LEFT: Mulder and Scully, all twitchy in Skinner's office in Chapter Eight.
MULDER IN SUIT: Just because he looks damn good.
SCULLY IN DRESS: The dress Scully wears for Mulder in Chapter Twelve.
MULDER AND SCULLY, FAR RIGHT: "Ladies room. Two minutes," Mulder says to Scully. Found in Chapter Eight.

I'm getting closer to fixing everything, but there may still be temporary breakages as I'm still doing long-overduebackground stuff. Thanks for being patient.
