Blackwood I & II by Susan Garrity

15,000 Words

Blackwood cover

An important section of the  (then) upcoming movie, (FTF) from the author’s point of view.

This fic, bestowed with Fight the Future's working title, was written before FTF screened, with a few late additions once "The End" and the movie preview aired. Alas, Mr Carter decided to take them on a slightly different course.

Anther one that didn't fit with the tags. I decided near enough was good enough.

Familiar Heart, A by Mish

72,000+ Words

A Familiar Heart cover

The Best Years of our Lives meets Magnificent Obsession Mulder and Scully style.  An alternative universe story, set in the 1940s.

This includes the sequel, An Unchanged Soul, which actually brings the word count up to 203,000 words.  This second story is unfinished, so it's up to you whether you embark on the extra 130,000 words knowing that there will be no ultimate resolution.

I don't usually read alternate universe stories, but I started this one without realising and had to keep reading.

This one had enough tension to keep me hooked the whole way. I've included the incomplete sequel. Mish tended to write a lot of stories at the same time, and consequently there are quite a few of hers that were never completed.  I was tossing up whether to include this story here due to the disappointment when I found the sequel wasn't complete, but the original story is worthwhile. You can decide for yourself whether to keep reading.

Lord of Misrule (The) by Dyann Z

22,500 Words

Lord of Misrule cover

Mulder and Scully spend the holidays together and discover what they want out of life. Schmaltzy, smut-filled fare.

Scully invites Mulder to the family Christmas celebrations since Bill's not supposed to be there... angst and smut ensues (my favourite phrase).

I hope any celebrations you might have over the festive season go better than the Scully Family Christmas, and that you get just as much excellent smut as our heroes.

I do have a version of the cover without the modesty santa cap. If I get a few likes over at the x-sites facebook page, I'll post an uncensored version for your Mulder-ogling pleasure. 🙂

Mistletoe by A N Turkington

16,000 Words

Mistletoe cover

“So why do we get dragged to the First Annual FBI Christmas Party? And might I add what a dumb idea that is in the first place. Formal dress, black tie, a bunch of boring federal agents pretending to be interesting for a night. And very convenient, about a hundred of us all in one place. Hope they haven’t received any bomb threats.”

Oh dear. I'm so scatterbrained right now I shouldn't even be allowed on the internet without supervision. This is my brain without drugs. 😀 I am persisting though,  otherwise there'd be no updates until at least mid-January when I start taking my new medication. Wash out periods suck.

Anyhoo, the foreword of this fic mentions Fire and Ice by Jennifer Stoy. I quickly posted it here last night, then just now realised that it's already included in Shippers Digest 6: FBI Ball edition. I'm removing the standalone version, because there's no point having it here twice. However, I'll keep the html version of Fire and Ice here for easy reference, should you be curious.

This is a very early example of smutty MSR, written in 1995. It starts with the ever-popular FBI Ball trope before Scully takes Mulder to a cabin in a ski resort area to avoid being alone for Christmas. There's a little angst mixed in as roughage. Enjoy.

Includes "She Wears It Well"

Snowed Inn: First in the Seasons Series. Mulder & Scully travel to a country Inn to help solve a murder. [Teens & Up]

She Wears it Well: Snowed Inn Universe - They're in a close, intimate relationship. A little window-shopping in Boston. You don't have to have read Snowed Inn to 'get' this one.  [Adults only]

.

Mulder and Scully have to investigate a strange case in the snow, whilst coming to terms with their feelings for each other.

They've most certainly come to terms with that in the companion fic, She Wears It Well. Some intense heat, despite the cold weather. 😉

Freeze I & II by KRoch

5,200 Words

Freeze cover

Mulder and Scully struggle to keep warm overnight in their broken down car as they wait for help to arrive.

A very early proponent of "mind candy", KRoch, demonstrates that a sleeping bag is optional when it comes to keeping warm in this hump day smut.

Resolutions by JessM

After hearing Mr. Carter say that our beloved sexually frustrated agents would indulge in some “traditional” practice on New Years Eve, and the cynical chorus of “what, singing Auld Lang Syne?” from fans, I decided we all know what we WANT them to do. This has no plot, no redeaming social values, lots of sexy Scrabble and some other games. Enjoy.

Jess brings our post-Diana-era agents back together and turns the UST up to 11, hovering there until the much-anticipated Y2K arrival. A sexy fic to counteract the recent PG postings 🙂

A Christmas Peril cover

Mulder and Scully's plans for a Christmas getaway suffer a setback, and Mulder's life hangs in the balance.

Part of the wonderful Virtual Seasons universe (Season 9)

Finally, another PG rated fic! Kestabrook has kindly rewritten Dickens for Mulder, who needed a bit of a kick in the behind for the way he was treating Scully.

Maggie’s Christmas Wish by Andrea

Maggie's Xmas Wish cover

A set-up. Christmas mind candy.

Maggie ships them.

Andrea's fics should be canon. 😉

Normal Halloween & Winter by Branwell

45,000 Words

Normal Halloween cover

A Normal Halloween: This is a stand-alone story of Mulder's and Scully's
'normal' 1999 Halloween. Set after "The Sixth Extinction" but is a prequel for "Winter I: The Riddle"

Winter I: The Riddle:  Mulder finds an X-file to distract him from the pain of Thanksgiving memories and Scully unexpectedly agrees to join him in investigating it. The experience turns into more than the simple diversion they planned. A darker mystery presents itself and threatens to expose more of their own emotions than they want to reveal.

Winter II: More than Glass:  Mulder and Scully find themselves dealing with the issue they have successfully avoided for seven years -- their exclusive attachment to each other and their mutual physical attraction.

With this Halloween fic you get an extra Thanksgiving story, so keep that in mind when I forget to do one for Thanksgiving. 🙂

Branwell gives us a Mulder and Scully who have been worn down both from years of fighting malevolent forces and being unable to share the repeated trauma with anyone else without ridicule and disbelief.  They're reluctant to trust anyone, including each other for fear of inflicting more pain.  They're ruled by their own insecurity and question whether they can even trust themselves.

I don't mean to put you off at all; it's actually a very real Mulder and Scully considering what they've been through, and there is such beauty in their tragedy.  Branwell doesn't put them through too much torture in these stories, but their actions and reactions are those of tortured souls.  There is real feeling in the way they treat each other, and underneath it all there's their deep abiding love. Eventually they find what they need in each other.

Happy Mother's Day to mothers of all descriptions. A bonus fic for the occasion: this fic is one that's even enjoyable for those of us who don't do kidfic.  Scully has a baby, and a partner, but it's not all as it seems. There are many twists and turns to keep you reading.

Poe Mountain Horror by West Shore

Book Cover: Poe Mountain Horror by West Shore

While a little Tennessee Mountain town revels in its new-found celebrity status as an alien abduction site, Mulder and Scully try to tell them that they are ignoring the real danger and are caught in the snare of an evil serial killer.

This one's a real thriller, beautifully crafted by West Shore. The mature rating is for the violence/horror themes, it's strictly platonic hurt/comfort.

The mysterious Charlie Scully gets to come out and play in this one, set around an icy waterfall and steamy hot springs at Temperance Creek State Park in Minnesota.  It's a nice trip to a cabin in the snow... that ends up in hospital.

A lot of snow, a couple of stranded FBI agents, strained nerves, and some unexpected visitors. How can anyone lie quiet in their grave with all that going on?

You can't go wrong with mimic117 (unless your depravity levels vary, in which case you won't find much to read at this site.)  This one's got a bit of a case file, but more importantly Mulder and Scully are stuck in a cabin in the snow.  Fun and games happen while they try to stay warm and alive...  You can also read it in italian at Mimic's Musings if you're so inclined.
