Queen of Mist and Memory, The by Avalon

97,000 Words

Queen of Mist and Memory cover

During a trip to England, Mulder and Scully find themselves trapped in the legendary court of Camelot. As they search for a way to return to their lives, Scully finds herself forgetting who she truly is.

You know how I am when it comes to posting fics that fit with special days.... With the coronation happening in the Great Britain on the weekend, I thought it only fitting to have Mulder and Scully head to the UK to do courtly things.  I've decided to release this one early & I'll post another one on Monday.

Avalon manages to weave Mulder and Scully into Arthurian romance while they're holidaying in Wales. It takes imagination and talent to find a way to place our heroes in these completely different worlds without losing the characters we love.

I am happy to report that Avalon did achieve her dream of becoming an author whilst continuing to follow her spiritual path.  She's published a few non-fiction books, as well as a novel. I like to promote works by fanfic authors without any traces from one to the other, so if you'd like to discover for yourself, if 'You Move' over to Avalon's Gossamer stories you should be able to find the information you need. I admit that I'm intrigued.

This story took me right back to my younger days of binge-reading MZB & visiting those legendary places; experiencing the ancient energy of Glastonbury and sunrise from the Tor... I'd love to get back there some day. If it wasn't for the 24-30 hours on a plane then equivalent time getting through immigration/customs at Heathrow I'd be a lot more enthusiastic. I need to find me a wormhole to zip through. Until then, I'm going to revel in my nostalgia by posting some more UK fics this week.

Blizzard & Transfers by L C Brown

58,000 Words

Blizzard & Transfers cover

Blizzard: Mulder and Scully are caught in a blizzard in the middle of nowhere without any shelter.

Transfers: Mulder becomes "possessed" and hurts Scully.

!Content Warning applies for "Transfers" - more info below.

This was originally supposed to be a series but unfortunately only two stories were written.  It's a shame because she set up a really interesting scenario that I'd have liked to have seen play out more.

There are lots of the favourite tropes here, despite this being written way back in 1996.  If it helps with considering the content warning in "Transfers", the actions warned about are outside Mulder's control and more of an X-File.

I love stories that don't fit into standard tags, but it makes it hard to entice readers with promises of certain events. I've also left off tags so as not to give things away.

Dejeuner Sur La Deja Vu by Ariadne

4,000 Words

Dejeuner Sur cover

While on assignment Scully's subconscious brings forth memories of a very different ending to "Monday" but what will her emotions push her to do with this newfound remembrance?

The cover might contain a spoiler for this one... Ariadne somehow manages to take our agents on a smooth trip from the summary to the dustjacket  and beyond.

This is one glorious post-ep for Monday.

Distant Skies by Feathers

14,000 Words

Distant Skies cover

Mulder drags Scully to Australia to investigate the death of a US government employee, but his hidden agenda is looking into a rash of UFO sightings near where the man died.

CW: pit bull terrier prejudice 🙂

Mulder pulls another case from a tabloid delivered to his door, this time with questionable jurisdiction and an extra-long flight.  Poor Mulder has a rough time of it.

This one does fascinate me as I'm not convinced that the thylacine is totally extinct. It's also set in a location familiar to me, which is the site of a well-known UFO event (the Kelly Cahill case mentioned in Season 10). I'd have liked the story to have gone on further since I was enjoying fond memories of the area and wanted Mulder and Scully to stick around a bit longer, but alas they had places to be. I've added a bit more info and links to the end of the story.

Since I've messed up this week's programming already I'm using the excuse of it being Australia Day today to post this today as a replacement for the usual Wednesday & Friday releases.  Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon.

Lonely Nightmare by Justin Glasser

21,000 Words

Lonely Nightmare cover

After Scully comes back from Philadelphia and before she is diagnosed with cancer, she and Mulder go to Wisconsin to investigate the disappearance of several small town teenagers.

I have a couple of scary fics releasing this week. Justin always turns out a good story and this one's quite the mystery. It would have made a great case file. There's a bit of a post-Philadelphia rift happening, and although there's no smut, all's well that ends with spooning.

Light Trippers (The) by Hawthorne Kessler

8,500 Words

Light Trippers cover

A tip from the Lone Gunmen about a secret military installation leads Mulder and Scully into a very surprising adventure.

The Lone Gunmen go on a road trip this time, when they decide to tag along on a case they passed on to Mulder.  Things were already awkward when they arrived the morning after...

I do like how the Gunmen just decided they wanted a piece of the action (no not that action) and followed along. There should be more of it.

Bend in the Road (The) by Kelly K

12,000 Words

Bend in the Road cover

I am angry right now. I’m not sure what galls me the most—that Mulder left and made me worry about him, that he ditched me to be with Diana Fowley, or how I reacted when I learned that he hadn’t been alone on his little hiatus. At first I was just angry with Mulder, but now I’m also angry with myself. I’ve behaved foolishly and I’m not sure how to retreat. I have fallen in love with Mulder and I don’t know how to stop.

When I last posted, I was about to get back on the road to drive home. I got home and fell apart. I haven't been able to even read fanfic in the last 5 months. I have a lot of catching up to do...

I thought it would be appropriate to post a couple of Mulder/Scully on-the-road fics. Their road trips are far more exciting than mine.  This one comes after the angst of One Son, and Scully is questioning her future with Mulder. Don't worry, there's a happy ending...

Dogged Determination Interlude V -The Greatest Gifts : Mulder ponders the meaning of Christmas. A short, sappy finale.

Oh, it's lovely being off-grid in the rainforest, but this satellite internet is going to drive me crazy when I have to refresh 3 times to load or save anything. I'll have to see how it goes as far as uploading while I'm here.

I listened to this one during most of the drive up. I had no idea how long it was, but it kept me occupied as I drove and made me drive extra carefully during certain scenes as I didn't want to have to submit dashcam footage with M&S in explicit flagrante delicto if I happened to crash while that was going on.

Anyway, this one is case related, it's actually a crossover at times but you don't need to know the other source/s, and packed full of MSR. Be aware that some parts come with content warnings, which I've tried to add to the descriptions above.

I won't be able to add the web version for this one, due to its size and the internet issues that I'm not up for facing right now. 🙂 I can't add the extra artwork either...

Ghost of You (The) by Julie Fortune

10,500 Words

Ghost of You cover

A body fell from a great height.  But no one knows who it is or where it came from.

This is a truly magnificent work of fiction, featuring Pissy!Scully and SomewhatObliviousButTrying!Mulder. I guarantee that you'll want to read it more than once.

I've been meaning to post some Julie Fortune fics for so long that I was sure I'd already done so. Apparently not. This is a massive oversight that I'll have to make up for.

Snowed Inn : Winter by Abracadabra

Snowed Inn cover

Includes "She Wears It Well"

Snowed Inn: First in the Seasons Series. Mulder & Scully travel to a country Inn to help solve a murder. [Teens & Up]

She Wears it Well: Snowed Inn Universe - They're in a close, intimate relationship. A little window-shopping in Boston. You don't have to have read Snowed Inn to 'get' this one.  [Adults only]

.

Mulder and Scully have to investigate a strange case in the snow, whilst coming to terms with their feelings for each other.

They've most certainly come to terms with that in the companion fic, She Wears It Well. Some intense heat, despite the cold weather. 😉

Legend of the Focáil-sidhe

200 Words

Focail-sidhe cover

And now for something completely different.  This is absolute silliness just for a laugh and some Halloween fun. We will return to the usual content shortly.

Mulder and Scully find themselves investigating a strange creature that causes them to find out what fate the root-beer really held.  Fill in the blanks to create your very own badfic.

(PS. The Focáil-sidhe is a total fabrication and no offense is intended towards the wonderful Celtic people and their legends.)

I haven't abandoned you all. I've had a bit of a rough time since I last uploaded, but I'm at home now and recovering and slowly getting back into the swing of things.

I just saw the date and realised I have to get some halloween fics read and uploaded, but in the meantime, this is something I prepared before I went away. I hope it gives you a laugh.

Dark Water by Suzanne Schramm

Dark Water cover

Prehistoric insects. Mothmen. Now it’s a publicity-shy tribe of murderers. Just another nice trip to the forest with Mulder.

Another nice trip to the forest on a questionable quest leads our agents into danger. Although there's no smut in this one, there's a lot of other action, and a little insane jealousy on Mulder's part that distracts him, leaving them more vulnerable.

Sunflowers in the Rain cover

As Mulder and Scully’s longing for each other is getting more and more unbearable a case file and Scully’s dreams take them to an isolated hotel in the mountains. Amid a missing persons’ investigation, a family mystery resurfaces, leading to discoveries, adventures, and revelations.

This week's link to AO3 is another from last year's fabulous case file exchange.  There are still some I haven't read, but I'm getting there.

Bigfoot by PC Rasmussen

27,500 Words

BIgfoot cover

Mulder goes hunting after fairytales again and Scully tags along. Things don't turn out the way Mulder hoped they would and things go wrong... Wanna know more? Read the story. :o)

A lesser known story by PC Rasmussen, this one's possibly heavier on the Scully!Torture than the Mulder!Torture for a change. 🙂 Although it's rated R by the author, I'd put it closer to a PG-13.

Delta S by Nicole Mason

30,000 Words

Delta S NC-17 cover

“Your mom and Charlie can come, too.” He saw her actually start to listen to the suggestion. “The only thing for miles around is a lodge. They have a barbeque planned and some fireworks. There’s a lake and several miles of trails and —”

“Just an everyday, ordinary vacation?”

“Yep. Is that so hard to believe, Scully?”

She grinned and opened the door. “Mulder, with you around that’s just about as likely as aliens landing tomorrow.”

I've also included a PG-13 version of this one.

Mulder decides to take some of the Scully family members away for a vacation. Maggie decides that Mulder and Scully should vacation alone. She does end up joining them in Vegas though, and the real action begins there. While this is a crossover, Nicole doesn't want to give anything away too early, and it's not necessary to have knowledge (or memory) of the other situation.

Although they're in Vegas for a specific reason that's not noromo friendly, I've included a PG-13 version because that reason doesn't dampen their bantery relationship at all, and thought some people may enjoy the other action.  Click on the PG dustjacket below to read the smut-free version.

Another not-so-nice trip to the woods.

Teamed up with an alphabet of other agencies, Mulder and Scully once again prove their strength in the face of both a challenge and hostility from other participants.

I love a third-party POV, and this one looks at Mulder & Scully through the eyes of the project overseer, an experienced General.  This is a non-stop drama-filled action story from 19. Although it's officially rated R, I think it's more the PG-13 end of the scale.

Imperishable by TaraW

Strange occurrences cause Mulder to use past X-Files to solve a new one, which sends he and Scully spiralling toward a truth they were *meant* to discover.

Another nice trip to the forest. I'm happy to be reviving this intriguing case file, which fell off the internet a long time ago. This one's set in Season 7 but fixes a Season 3 episode.

Seraphine by MonikaFileFan

Seraphine cover

Another forest; another cryptid; another moment of life-changing clarity in which Mulder and Scully embark on a journey of the heart, and other improbable things.

This is definitely a better trip to the forest than they had in Detour. 🙂

Monika's packed this full of the all-important smut, whilst maintaining the UST for as long as possible with this original tale.

Mobius by ShipperX (LA Ward)

50,000 Words

Mobius cover

While investigating the disappearance of a physicist, Scully finds someone she didn’t expect—Mulder.

This is a post-Requiem fic, with Scully working alone after Mulder's disappearance.   It's a very clever story about our agents and their fight to reunite.

Some very early visitors to this page may have noticed the change of cover - Once again, I stumbled across the original cover right after uploading the story here so I've replaced it in the files.  I assume this cover was made by the author but please let me know if you know otherwise. 🙂

Lost Series, The by Wintersong

204,000 Words

Lost series cover

The Lost: Mulder and Scully are trapped in the remote wilderness and the art of surviving was not what they expected.

The Found: In the midst of an explosively escalating serial arson case, Mulder and Scully must come to terms with the changes that six months in the wilderness have wrought in themselves and those around them.

Alphas: Mulder, Scully and the rest of the X-Files Division struggle with new realities and the changing of old relationships when the reopening of a closed murder investigation draws them into a shadowy culture thousands of years old.

This starts with an unforgettable story of Scully and Mulder's survival in the woods having been taken there by a perp.  Scully's strength and ingenuity keeps them alive before they're ultimately reunited with civilisation.  Once they return they're forced to San Diego to help with a case involving Scully's brother.   Then finally they have to face themselves and each other.

Au Naturel cover

Au Naturel: Mulder and Scully spend the day together. In a state forest.

Aux Etoiles: Just what is it that makes a moment magic?  This story takes place in the Au Naturel Universe, but they work as stand-alones.

This is the nice trip to the forest we've all been waiting for.

I'm currently ploughing through some depression/anxiety issues. I'm trying to keep the posts up but also attempting to take some pressure off by not feeling as though I have to post, if that makes sense. I'm hoping it will be business as usual but please bear with me if I don't get 3 weekly releases for the next couple of weeks.  It's nothing i haven't dealt with before, it's just a matter of harnessing limited energy and brainpower to use where it's needed. 🙂

Oops, I forgot to upload this, and i'm on a social-distancing vacation on Fraser Island, where internet is hard to get. The partners investigate a case of a missing child and run into a couple of obstacles along the way.

This feels like a Darin Morgan-type story, with Scully operating the slide projector and having the theory, while Mulder questions its validity as an X-File.  It was originally written for Virtual Season 8 (episode 23).  If you like case files, I can highly recommend the Virtual Season X site as a treasure trove.  They also made dustjackets for each 'episode' so the odd virtual episode will end up here.  This project continued the series with virtual episodes when it was unknown whether there would be a Season 8.  It branches off after Season 7's Je Souhaite, meaning the revelations and events in Requiem and official Season 8 onwards never happened.  Mulder and Scully are a couple, but the focus is on the case files rather than the relationship.  [This is a different project from the Alternative Season 8 that's previously been posted here.]

Fancy Footwork : NC-17 : The morning after the night before as last seen in "Fancy Dance"

Fancy Three: PG-13 : Season Six, a little later on the morning after the night before seen in "Fancy Dance" and "Fancy Footwork"

Tickled Fancy: NC-17 : Season Six, after the events of Milagro

Fancy Toppings : R

Midsummer Night's Fancy : R

Fancy Harvest :  PG-13

Fancy Fall:  PG-13 - um, okay, R - but I still maintain this is not smut. No matter what Ropo says. 😉

Fancy Foreplay :  Robbie *made* me rate this NC-17; no bad language, tho. Still say it ain't smut.

Fancy Haunts :  NC-17. But *I* wouldn't call it smut.

Fancy Phone : R for racy language, implied smut : Set sometime in Season Seven, obviously pre-Requiem :  extra fic, not in Collector's Edition from the annex.

My head is in full on anxiety mode and I can't quite remember what happens in this one.  All I remember is that I was pleasantly surprised by this fic, and I've given it the following tags: ^, >, 1, 1>, Bch, CabW, P°, Pg, Sinit.  They might not mean much to you, but they tell me that they go to a forest, Scully runs out, there's first time sex, someone has regret after the first time, there's a beach, a cabin in the woods and outdoor sex, not necessarily in that order. Also, someone gets pregnant (probably not Mulder) and Scully initiates the romance.  I did enjoy it and it was hailed as one of Fred and Ginger's Smut Classics, so I hope you enjoy it regardless of my inability to remember what actually happens in it.

Shipper’s Digest 02: Two Agents, One Tent

14,000 words

Set after season 11, Mulder and Scully are private consultants investigating an Australian cryptid legend, the Bunyip, in Queensland.

I can't say I've ever seen a bunyip, but there's rumoured to be a yowie not far from here.  I do enjoy FrangipaniDownunder's writing, and this short cryptid-fic is probably the closest Mulder and Scully have ever been to my house.  Maybe I could invite this freelance post S11 Mulder and Scully to visit my house and hunt for my yowie.  Just a note, I'm not a fan of the 'beyond impossible' pregnancy storyline so I appreciate this version of Moose & Squirrel, but baby-fans may be sad.

Tam Lin by Pequod

Book Cover: Tam Lin by Pequod

Myth and murder combine in a remote Scottish village and Mulder and Scully investigate.

Pequod gives us that ever-infuriating Mulder who withholds important details but gets away with it because he's adorable.  The plot is strong, as is the UST, until PartyDress!Scully tips that over the edge.  It's a well-written tale with the humour and banter that made me fall in love with Mulder and Scully, set in the beautiful Scottish countryside. And Kilt!Mulder even makes a cameo. 🙂

Complicity by Promise64

95,000 words

Book Cover: Complicity by Promise64

A journey through the shadows of guilt, regret, and responsibility, as a horrific case teaches our heroes about the fragility of trust and the cost of a promise broken.

Brief Note: In its way, this story has become my homage to the world of XF fanfiction; it has evolved into something of a pastiche of all my favorite "cliched" fanfic scenarios-Profiler!Mulder occupies a central place in this fic, as does the traditional casefile; Mulder-and-Scully-in-the-Wilderness tm., figures prominently, and it's even a "First Time" fic; Injured!Scully and Injured!Mulder both make cameos, and there's angst aplenty. I did, however, leave out the kitchen sink . I have tried, in my attempts to honor all that I have so dearly loved about XF fic (my very first fandom, ::sniff::), to render these scenarios in my own way, to challenge (or subvert) the genuine cliches while, at the same time, embracing what I adore about XF fanfic, and I have endeavored to give each of these scenarios my own proverbial "spin." Even as I have branched out into other fandoms, and left XF behind for a considerable amount of time, this creative universe has
remained my "touchstone," the fandom by which all other fandoms have
been judged. My sincerest hope is that my affection for this universe
and its characters can be discerned within the content of this story.

Promise64 indulges us in all we love about XF Fanfic in a story that took her eight years to complete, for which I'm very grateful.  I have a note on this one that says !Dubcon bad sex, but I can't quite remember the exact scenario involved.  Don't worry, it's tagged as having great sex too, and angry sex in particular.  I think it's time I re-read it.

CONTENT WARNING: The following story is contrived, cliche-ridden, unrealistic, and unhygienic. And really, really smutty. ~Sap alert~ as well. Don't venture further unless you dig that kind of thing

Tootsie Pop
After returning from an assignment where Mulder inadvertantly caught sight of Scully in her underwear, a cliched evening of boring paperwork was made more interesting by Mulder seeing even more of Scully.

Tootsie Pop II: Marshmallows & Mints
Summary: Mulder and Scully go on another nice trip to the forest, or thereabouts, share conversation and confections, and engage in other fun adult activities.

Tootsie Pop II: JellyBellies and Twang
SUMMARY: Mulder and Scully travel to Austin, Texas, for a boring conference, but they manage to accomplish a whole busload of fun and naughty stuff CC never lets them do. A fluffy smut biscuit—with gravy.

EvieLouise lets them have a bit of fun.

I also discovered, when editing the table of contents in this fic, that the copy on annex-files.com is missing TPII chapter 5, which is definitely in this  version.

EvieLouise also mentioned some visual elements in her story.  These are in the ePub and PDF versions, but I'll put them here for .txt people.

59,000 Words

Book Cover: Lost Time by Spider
Part of the Human Affairs series:

Diana continues to interfere after One Son. Our agents couldn't be any more distant when they're sent out of the country on a case.

Author's Notes: For almost 20 years I have lived in a country with a 5,000 year old culture, spending months in villages that count years since the last white person was seen. I was once an academic and thus am still more skeptic that believer. But I have also seen things... On my last trip to Ambrym volcano, I was stuck in a leaky hut with dead bodies from black magic littering the area. . My helicopter pilot companion thought I was screwy reading Xfiles when we lived the damned things. So a bottle of tequila and an annoyance about the M&S relationship post One Son in hand, I sat down with many battery changes, incorporated real life to fiction and ended up with this.

This is one of my favourite fics. I can't get enough Fowley-induced-angst, and she's at her evil worst in this one.  It does reference Human Affairs, a previous story by Spider, but  it's not necessary to read that story before this one. You might notice that I've tagged both stories as UST to RST, but there's a reason for that so just go with it. 🙂

Spider is clearly a gifted writer. She's actually an international bestselling author in her own right. The book referenced under the Lost Time image below is a science-fictional look at the results of climate change and the subsequent breakdown of society that's already quite frightening in 2020. The author has released it as a free download if you'd like to Ecosia it (alternative to Google with more trees and fewer data collectors).

18+ months later - I just found some original artwork for Spider's stories. I assume that this was created by Spider as it didn't state otherwise. I've also mocked up an image to direct you to the author's other work without search engines being able to associate that  work with this fanfic (I hope).

Tantric by Jacquie LaVa & TBishop

"Honest to God, I meant to ease her into it; I never meant to blurt it out like that. You’d think, after seven years and countless bizarre cases, I would have learned my lesson. But I was so excited; so anxious to get my teeth into this one, I forgot to be diplomatic – forgot to use my head instead of my heart. I had spent the weekend going through all the files and the plethora of information I’d found, on the Web and in B. Dalton’s; I’d taken notes, collected documented testimonials from folks who had decided to talk about what they knew of this particular organization… by the time Scully hit the basement on Monday, I was so wired that she never had a chance.

Posing as my little wifey, and involving herself in what could be considered 'deviant sexual cultish situations…'”

This one has some delicious "keeping it real while undercover" smut in it.  I had a little trouble imagining Scully losing control to the extent she does, but I'm willing to forgive these writers this once; they're two of my all-time favourites. And like I say, OOC is perfectly acceptable when there's intense sex involved...  which is why I hate it when CC takes them out of character.

Please be aware that there are many disturbing elements in this fic, and Scully bears the brunt of a lot of the coercive behaviour, so proceed with caution.

I'm getting closer to fixing everything, but there may still be temporary breakages as I'm still doing long-overduebackground stuff. Thanks for being patient.
